Segger vs nRF connect

Hi

I'm at the early stages of evaluating the nRF52840 and have some questions

1.  The web site lists Segger Studio and nRF Connect as choices for development.

What are advantages/disadvantages of using one vs the other?

I just need to be able to write and debug the code.

2. The nRF52840 in my case is actually installed on the Particle Boron board but that system does not have public API to talk to it directly, only Mesh is exposed. So I'm looking to write an AT command parser, similar to AdaFruit BlueFruit. Are there any samples of UART/SPI communication on the nRF52840 to get me started?

Thanks

Andy
