Firmware upgrade mechanism for LTE modem

After testing the nRF9160-DK with all available samples, we decided to integrate the nRF9160 in an own new product and have now a prototype available.
And of course some questions arise.

One question is about how I will be able to upload an initial or upgraded LTE firmware.
Perhaps we did not consider this point enough but I assumed no problem as there is nothing special noted in the documentation (nRF9160 Objective Product Specification v0.7.1)
I do not have any serial ports connected to the outside as in the DK board but I am able to transfer the firmware data to the nRF9160 app CPU.

Can this done through the IPC mechanism?

Are ist this done through these obscure Testpoints 49/50 (Pin 124, 125)?

Over the air?

Any documentation?

Look at this page https://www.nordicsemi.com/Products/Low-power-cellular-IoT/nRF9160/Download#infotabs. There is a download to modem firmware image and DFU tool. The download also contains a readme that should guide you in updating the firmware.

Thank you Hakan. I already had that tool installed and did already update the firmware of the DK.

So which mechanism is used to program the LTE firmware?

Is this done through the J-Link debug interface?

I am supposed to analyze the python program to have that information?

The confusion started because I was not aware that the same J-Link debug connection is used for the applicatoin processor and the LTE processor. So the indicated tools that works with the DK board also works with custom boards - no other resources used (like serial ports etc).

It still would be nice to have a description how this firmware upgrade process works. Or how FOTA will/should work ...
