Can you use nRFgo Studio for OTA programming of nRF52 DK?

Hello,

This is my first experience with any nRF hardware and programming using BLE. I want to program my nRF52 development kit over the air from my windows computer via nRFgo studio, is this possible or do I have to use segger or nrfutil, or all of them together? And do I have to create my hex or zip files in segger?

Apologies if my question is too open ended, I have spent hours reading documentation and keep getting stuck in loops.

Hi,

You cannot use nRFgo studio, but you can use nRF Connect for Desktop BLE app. Connect to the target, and click on the DFU button to upload the DFU zip package.

On the target device you will need to use the secure_bootloader dfu example + the SoftDevice.

So do I need to connect a nRF52 system via USB to my computer running the softdevice, then connect over BLE to another nRF52 system running the secure boot-loader to do DFU OTA?

Yes, that is correct. If you don't have another nRF52 DK or dongle, you can use your phone with nRFConnect app for mobile.

Thank you, and does the nRFConnect app for mobile replace the softdevice programmed nRF52? So all I need is to scan and connect to the wireless nRF52 with the secure bootloader programmed, then upload my hex or zip files over my phone?

Yes. With nRF Connect for mobile we are using the built-in BLE in the mobile.
