nRF9160 failing with nrf_cloud_connect failed: 60 for asset_tracker

I'm seeing similar problems to others in getting highly unreliable connections to the network.  I *VERY* occasionally get LED3 and LED4 to blink simultaneously, but it's very rare, and generally something times out and the board loses that connection shortly therafter.

This is tested in Southern California from various points roughly from Irvine, CA to San Diego, CA.  This is the home of Qualcomm, so I'm assuming the network isn't the issue...

I can't run any AT commands against the asset_tracker code as it never gets past the nrf_cloud_connect.

Running the at_client code I can do a AT+CGMR and that gives me:

mfw-m1_nrf9160_0.6.8-30.alpha

Any help would be very appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Looking at the log we can see that you connect and disconnect several times, but we do not know why at this moment. 

    Can you please try to program this file, uicr_tcxo.hex. This sets the configuration of the 32 MHz temperature compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO).

    nrfjprog --program uicr_txco.hex --sectorerase -f nrf91 -r --verify

    After it is done, please reset the board and try the AT_Client one more time.

  • I might be in this boat too. Strangely, I have two boards. One works fine to connect right away but then the whole board resets (tangential issue), so I setup my other board and this one simply will not connect. I mean it did once when I used the at client sample but the asset tracker does not....and the signal was terrible ... 255,255,38 . So am I in the same boat? 
    One difference between the boards is that the one that connects better has the GPS antenna broken off. It was like that from the very first day and I never thought much of it. I would guess it should not have an impact but it's weird that one connects and the other doesn't. hmm.
