How to add custom UUID as part of BLE Advertisement packet

Hi all,

In Nordic SDK ble_app_gls Example , the following UUID is added as part of Advertisement packet

static ble_uuid_t m_adv_uuids[] = /**< Universally unique service identifiers. */
{
{BLE_UUID_GLUCOSE_SERVICE, BLE_UUID_TYPE_BLE},
{BLE_UUID_BATTERY_SERVICE, BLE_UUID_TYPE_BLE},
{BLE_UUID_DEVICE_INFORMATION_SERVICE, BLE_UUID_TYPE_BLE}
};

Now I want to add Custom service UUID as part of BLE Advertisement packet.

Now I have defined my Custom service as 2da39e80-3a63-11e9-b210-d663bd873d93

#define BLE_UUID_CUSTOM_TEST_SERVICE  0x9e80

static ble_uuid_t m_adv_uuids[] = /**< Universally unique service identifiers. */
{
{BLE_UUID_GLUCOSE_SERVICE, BLE_UUID_TYPE_BLE},
{BLE_UUID_BATTERY_SERVICE, BLE_UUID_TYPE_BLE},
{BLE_UUID_CUSTOM_TEST_SERVICE  , BLE_UUID_TYPE_VENDOR_BEGIN},
};

Also modified - #define NRF_SDH_BLE_VS_UUID_COUNT 1

With this change, Im unable to detect the device in Mobile App.

Can you please help to resolve the issue?

Hi Deepa

You should be able to advertise your UUID by adding the following to your advertising init(): 

advdata.uuids_complete.uuid_cnt = sizeof(m_adv_uuids) / sizeof(m_adv_uuids[0]);   
advdata.uuids_complete.p_uuids  = m_adv_uuids;

init.advdata.uuids_complete.uuid_cnt = sizeof(m_adv_uuids) / sizeof(m_adv_uuids[0]);
init.advdata.uuids_complete.p_uuids = m_adv_uuids;

The above initialisation is already taken care in Nordic SDK ble_app_gls Example, at advertising_init().

It works only for BLE SIG UUID but it is not working for Custom service UUID?

Hi Deepa

Don't use BLE_UUID_TYPE_VENDOR_BEGIN, register the UUID you need with sd_ble_uuid_vs_add() and use the return from that function as MY_UUID_TYPE

I don't know where the practice of trying to use that constant came from, it's always been wrong.
