Wired vs OTA programming interfaces.

I would like to understand when I would need a wired programming (with help of TC2030 connector) interface and when I would need OTA. I am trying to find the easiest and fastest way to program The Beacon Kit (nrf51822) with the softdevice (and bootloader?) I need and the application I need, what would you recommend for this task - wired programming interface or OTA? My understanding is: if I use the TC2030 connector then I would also be able to print out debug messages while my beacon kit based application is running, is that correct assumption?
