Ideas for measure the distance between a BLE module and beacon device

Dear friends,

Is there any ideas for measuring the distance between a BLE module and a beacon module without using RSSI?

  • Do you mean that you've tried RSSI and did not get good results? That's because RSSI is very affected by the surrounding environment due to multipath effects. But it all depends on your required accuracy and your application; are either your beacon or module moving and how fast. When moving, you could use Kalman filtering (you need an IMU obviously) to average out distorted RSSI measurements. In such a setup you could also look into Angle-of-Arrival (AoA) measurements if you really don't want to use RSSI. This is possible as of Bluetooth 5.
