Setting Tx Power Level in example "ble_app_beacon" for SDK 15.3

I having trouble setting power level above +4 dbm in my app based on the example "ble_app_beacon" using the PCA10059 nRF52840 dongle. I have updated the main.c with the following lines of code (lines 202 and 203 in main.c)

err_code = sd_ble_gap_tx_power_set(BLE_GAP_TX_POWER_ROLE_ADV, m_adv_handle, 4);
APP_ERROR_CHECK(err_code);
Is there a reason why 4 and below works but not 8?

  • Thanks for your response! Yes, I have an error code as below:

    <error> app: ERROR 7 [NRF_ERROR_INVALID_PARAM] at ../../../main.c:384

    PC at: 0x0002F0DB
    After looking at this more closely I re-verified the softdevice loaded using nRF connect for MacOS to read back the memory and it turns out the s132 softdevice was loaded and not s140 as expected. I discovered the build script didn't update the softdevice automatically, only the application. So with the correct softdevice loaded, it worked. Sorry for any confusion and thanks again for your help!
