nRF9160 DK Asset Tracker nrf_cloud_connect failed: -111

I recently got past an issue with not connecting to the LTE network getting an nrf_cloud_connect failed: 60 and had things working yesterday.  I had support for that issue in case 222766 (https://devzone.nordicsemi.com/support/222766), helped by @Øyvind

I went back to try things today and am getting a different error:

nrf_cloud_connect failed: -111

From looking at DevZone it appears that this error is for Connection Refused and can happen when all of the 10MB of data gets used up for the provided iBasis SIM.  I did inadvertently leave the board running for a few hours yesterday, so this might be possible, though I'm not certain of the position of SW2 at the time, which determines if messages are sent or not.

The FAQ for iBasis on DevZone (https://devzone.nordicsemi.com/b/nrf9160-development-status/posts/ibasis-global-access-for-things-frequently-asked-questions-faq) says:

1. Q: How can I determine how much data is left in my current data plan?

    A: Your nRF Cloud LTE device dashboard will show the status of your nRF9160 Development Board along with the percent of data remaining in your current plan.

2. Q: How can I purchase more cellular data from the iBasis Global Access for Things worldwide cellular IoT service?

    A: A “Buy More Data” button will appear at the top of your nRF Cloud LTE device dashboard when your current data plan is almost depleted.  When you select the “Buy More Data” button, a data “Top-Up” page will be launched allowing you to select and pre-pay for a Top-Up data plan with your credit card.

But on nRF Cloud I don't get anything showing the percent of remaining data in my plan, nor do I get a Buy More Data button at the top of the device dashboard.

So, I can't tell if I've used up my data or not.  How do I figure out what's wrong?

  • But on nRF Cloud I don't get anything showing the percent of remaining data in my plan, nor do I get a Buy More Data button at the top of the device dashboard.

    Unfortunately this seems to be the case, I can only report the issue for now, hopefully you may have another SIM card you can use for test and continued development for now.
