nRF9160 Verizon SIM

Hey,

So I've been using the Verizon SIM card supplied by nordic with our nRF9160 dev kit. I never really new how the APN was getting configured because it just happened.

For example, for AT&T, I have to configure the APN manually, but the SIM included from nordic it "just works". As we get closer to production I would like to know more about how this all works.

How does the APN get configured for Verizon? Is it read off the SIM? Is this a function of the Modem FW? Is this a configuration in the application itself?

  • Hi Jack,

Some vendors have a lot of requirements related to handling of APN and other PDN connection parameters than others. (In case of Verizon, the operator requires automatic handling of APNs in order to get the Verizon certification.)

These are indeed implemented and handled in the modem firmware.

So the modem firmware detects the specific vendors SIM and take action accordingly in the modem firmware to meet the requirements for that SIM card.

    Best regards,

    Martin L.
