BLE range test

HI All

Im newbe in on that "field", so im apologize for stupid question.

I will like to check a optimal casing for my new product equiped with bluetooth comunication. 

So my question is: Is there any standart application to test range? I tryed out "TX Power Level" service but with no luck. I can see that only in the "scan mode" but not when there is connection established :(

im using:

nRF52840 Dongle

Wpp100B001 Sensor

nRF Connect v2.6.2 Bluetooth Low Energy

Hi,

There is no standard application for testing range. For testing range in meters, you could connect, and then e.g walk until you lose the connection. If you are testing different casings, maybe you could place the 2 devices e.g. at 2 meters apart, and then check the RSSI values. When you are in a connection, you can use the function sd_ble_gap_rssi_get() to get the latest RSSI value for the connection. You can also use sd_ble_gap_rssi_start(), where you get the event BLE_GAP_EVT_RSSI_CHANGED with the RSSI data.

I was afraid that will be the answer :(

The problem also applies to lost data. I do not like to have a bad connection. I would like to test all possible scenarios. I was hoping there would be a tool for this. Before i will spend time building my own software.

Hi,

I added USBD functionality to the BLE central example ble_app_uart_c. The attached example will connect to a peripheral device that advertises with the name "Nordic", and will after connection establishment print the RSSI over USB CDC ACM(Virtual COM port). It might help you with your testing. Please consider the example as experimental.
