ToF support for Nordic products

Hi,

I had a meeting with one of our customers and was asked if any of Nordic products support ToF. I briefly looked through DevZone and found that it was not supported.

1) Is the ToF support situation same as before?

2) Is there any possible way to support it or any plan to support in the future?

3) I was told by the customer that Dialog device supports it. Do you aware of that?

Thank you for your support.

  • Hello,

Do you mean Time of Flight as in distance measureing?

    1) If so, no. It is not supported. The two devices (trasmitter and receiver) doesn't have synchronized clocks, so it wouldn't have any way of figuring out when the packet was sent.

    2) not that I am aware. Only AoD and AoA (Angle of Arrival/Departure) which is part of the BLE 5.1 specification.

    3) I don't know. I struggle to see how this would work. As mentioned, BLE messages doesn't include timestamps, and I can't imagine that two devices would have that synchronized clocks. It may be that they have some proprietary solution, but not that I have heard of.

    Best regards,

    Edvin
