nRF52832 features and bulk size (Flash/RAM) for stack versus nRF52811

Hi,

We’d like to migrate from nRF51822 to nRF52 series.
We have 2 targets : nRF52811 and nRF52832. We’d rather use nRF52811 (better sensitivity, lower consumption, features above 5.0), but it seems that FW team needs 256K/32K (Flash/RAM), whereas nRF52811 provides only 192K/24K.
For now we targetted the nRF52832 for the latter reason. FW is concerned about the features on nRF52832, can it be compliant with greather than 5.0 as nRF52811 is ? Is the stack optimized as on the nRF52811 ? Is nRF52832 only a dev platform ?
Do you think that 256K/32K code would fit on 192K/24K as the stack seems to be optimized on nRF52811 ?

Certainly not!

AIUI, nRF52832 is main-stream; the nRF52811 is a "stripped-down" version for simple, low-cost projects.

I doubt it: nRF52811 is very new - there are many posts noting the lack of support for any of its new features beyond what's in the existing products...

Hi,

 

As awneil points out, both are very much their own products, none should be considered a development chip, they just have different feature sets and pricing. nRF52832 DK is used for SW development on nRF52810 though, and nRF52840 DK is used for development on nRF52811.

 

Note that nRF52832 and NRF52811 does not support the same SD versions. nRF52811 supports S112, which requires less flash, but has a limited feature set compared to S132 which is supported to nRF52832. This might allow you to squeeze by the flash available.

 

nRF52832 HW does not support the DF features in BT 5.1, only nRF52811 does, but note that there is no SW support for this yet. If you do not plan to use this though then there might not be too much sacrifice going with nRF52832.

Hi Cédric,

 

That sounds like a good plan. nRF52810 is a fair choice as well, note that it supports slightly different softdevices than nRF52811 as well, allowing more flexibility on choosing one that is right for you. We always recommend using the latest one (that is supported for the respective IC) to make sure you get the latest features and bug fixes.
