use of sd_ble_gatts_service_changed

hi...

can anybody help me to familiar with api "sd_ble_gatts_service_changed" . 1.what is its use. 2. where do i call this api in my application code/bootloader code? 3.am working on wimoto profiles. i that we have an option to switch to dfu mode by writing 0x01 to one characteristics.. should dis api will help for dis? how?
