Cutting antenna

Hi!

I understand almost nothing about antenna design so I'm in general just copy and paste antenna design from reference board.

But this time I'm interested to make PCB smaller. I know that it has to be 1/4 of wavelenght.

As far as I'm understand 1/4 of wavelenght is the part outside of ground plane. So can I cut parts marked with black arrow without significant losses of radio signal?

  • Hi,

Do you mean remove everything between the black arrows, like this?

Yes, if you do not need the test connector, you can remove this. Remember to do so before you tune the antenna though, any change made will require you to retest the board and possibly respin the layout. I would not make it smaller than this on the antenna-side though, if you need to reduce the size even more I would start looking at the other sides of the board.

    Best regards,

    Andreas
