NRF51822 development kit not recommended for new design

Hello Everyone,

I want to start working on nRF51822 development kit for my project. but as mentioned on this site :www.nordicsemi.com/.../nRF51822-Development-Kit

that "Not recommended for new designs, replaced by nRF51 DK and nRF51 Dongle" is it nRF51822 chip production going to be stopped or only nRF51822 Development Kit?.

in place of that it is mentioned to use nRF51 DK and nRF51 Dongle but as mentioned on this link: devzone.nordicsemi.com/.../

do i need nRFgo Starter Kit with it for development with nRF51 DK kit?

  • The development kits have been replaced by new ones using the latest revisions of the chips. Chip production of course continues.

No you don't need the starter kit for the new development kit or dongle. It's self-contained and you just plug it in.

  • The nrf51422 is identical to the nrf51822 with the one difference that it can support ANT stacks as well as BTLE ones. Since it's a superset chip you can develop for either nrf51422 or nrf51822 on the new development board just as it is and then use whichever chip is required when you build your product. So no you don't need to change the kit in any way, just load the BTLE softdevices on and use it as if it were an nrf51822.
