eSIM current consumption

I'm designing a board using nRF9160 with eSIM. But according to the eSIM specifications (chip spec), the current consumption is <[email protected]. Is this continuous current consumption? Or does the nRF9160 turn it on and off? 4mA is way to much when sensor sleep current will be in some tens of uA. What is the expected current consumption, and how does it relate to using SIM?

Hi Bård,

[email protected] sounds extremely high. We typically see eSIM current consumption between 2-15 X the PSM floor current, i.e. between 5.5-40uA, depending on the eSIM used. 

It is possible to turn of the SIM card during PSM to reduce the current consumption, but this must be supported by the SIM.

Measuring the current consumption in PSM mode, it sees as if the eSIM is using very little current. Not like stated in the eSIM specifications.
