Long Range impact on average current consumption

Hello,

I have simple custom board  with simple firmware.
It's just nrf52811 advertising with 0,5 s interval.
I'm considering to use Long Range advertising, but wonder how it can impact on average current consumption, because my device is battery powered.
I've discovered that average current consumption increased from 0,032 to 0,17 after changing advertising PHY from 1Mbps to Coded.
Its huge change and will significantly reduce battery life time.
Is that big increase of average current consumption normal after switching from 1Mbps to Coded advertising PHY?

Hi,

We don't have the nRF52811 as an option in the Online Power Profiler, but i assume that the difference between Coded and 1 Mbps would be about the same for the nRF52810, I therefore suggest that you simulate it using the online calculator with the nRF52810 to get a estimate on the difference.

Ok, but how I can change advertising PHY from 1 Mbps to Coded in that calculator?

Hi,

Sorry, the Coded option is only available for the nRF52840 in the Online Power Profiler. But the difference between 1 Mbps and Coded should be about the same for the nRF52840 and the nRF52811. However, the option is only available in a connection and not while advertising.
