The available Android application files (specifically using bluetooth) are file types .apk. What file type is this? Am I supposed to be able to open them on an Android application development software?

I am using Android Studio and am developing a system with the nRF51822. I would like to use the available sample code - nRF Master Control Panel APK for Adroid - available on nordicsemi.com, but I am not able to open it on the Adroid Studio software. What type of file is .apk and how do I use it?

Apk is your application. You have to install it before you can use the application. Search the folder of the apk and install it with a click on the apk.
