Extending Power Profiler Kit Measurement Range

I have been making good use of the Power Profiler Kit with some impressive results on my nRF52 project.

I would now like to extend the testing to view an application where I am controlling a GSM modem.

This modem will be taking large gulps of power out of a bulk storage capacitor which are likely to result in PSU current demands of a few hundred mA at 5V

I appreciate that the kit as it stands is only designed for running up to around 70mA, but wondered if there were any way in which I can alter the current sense shunt on the board in order to measure higher currents with less granularity of the small currents?

TIA

  • Hi Andy

In order to do that I think you'd have to modify the hardware of the PPK. This is not something that anyone here has tested I think, so we can't guarantee anything. You could try switching out the three measuring resistors with 1/10th of the value and upscale 10 times in software for example. The PPK hardware files are available here, so you should have all you need.

Due to the summer holidays in Norway, our support team is understaffed this week, and delayed replies must be expected. Sorry for the inconvenience!

    Best of luck and regards,
