High quality audio over BT: which device will meet my needs?

I want to stream a mono audio signal with high bandwidth (20kHz) from a remote device to a base device.

Need to A2D signal on remote and D2A the signal on the base. Low latency without dropouts is desired.

Will the Thingy 52 meet these requirements? A low SWaP remote is preferred. Can I keep the base from synching to other devices?

Thank you.

  • I believe the Thingy52's audio link is capped at 10kHz.

The nRF52832's SAADC can sample once channel at 44kHz at 14-bit resolution. And the BLE radio can transfer at 88kBps, but it will require the full BLE 4.2 feature set in the receiver, and the range will not be that great.

There's work in progress on a BLE audio spec by the Bluetooth SIG, but I do not know when it is finished. I'm guessing in a year or two.
