nrf52840 power optimization

Hey guys I am using nrf52840 dongle for scanning ble beacons. I want my dongle to be power optimized in a way that it starts scanning for 10 sec and then go to sleep for one minute and then resume scanning. When I measure my dongle to with continuous scanning, it uses 17mA, and then goes to 5mA and 0mA for 1 sec maybe changing channels then goes back to 17mA, I want to start and stop scan as desired. Also if we change the transmit power, can we minimize power.

Kindly give suggestions how to achieve this.

Are you powering the device from USB?
If that's the case then the USB regulator is not really optimized to begin with. 

Here's the Scanning Module API docs. In nrf_ble_scan_start you'll see the parameter p_scan_ctx a member called scan_scan params that sets for how long and how often you scan.
