sdk 7.1.0 and the nRF51822 Bluetooth Smart Beacon Kit

I tried to program the beacon kit with the nfr51822_beacon_app.hex through DFU-OTA using the nRF Toolbox on an IPad, and though the upload seemed to work, the application does not.

Then I tried to upload the s110_nfr51822_7.1.0_softdevice.hex and the nrf51822_beacon_bootloader.hex as I thought there is a mismatch here, but then I was informed (by the Toolbox app) that the current DFU service on the beacon kit only support uploading of applications over-the-air, and not boot loaders or softdevice.

Is it possible to upgrade the DFU on the beacon kit to allow for uploading bootloaders and softdevice firmware over-the-air, or do I have to "wire up" the device in order to achieve this?

You can upgrade the bootloader to allow for uploading the bootloader and softdevice. But you will have to wire up the device in order to upgrade to the newest bootloader which supports this.
