Is it possible for nrf9160 kit to work as a separate interface?

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased "nrf9160 kit" and have been trying to get used to it.
But, my primary goal is to use this kit for performing simple transmissions such as ping.
So, I'm indeed wondering whether it can operate as an independent network interface like Wi-Fi or ethernet in either Ubuntu or Windows.
Please let me know if you know anything related to this.

The nRF9160 is not capable of 2.4GHz communication. It is designed for cellular and GPS communication.

The development kit may specify 2.4GHz (for BLE) communication but that isn't provided by the nRF9160 SiP, that is provided via the on-board nRF52840.

What is it exactly you are trying to ping (i.e. internet router, cellular network, random internet IPs) and how were you planning to interface with the nRF9160 kit?
