how to enable nrf_ble_scan_evt_scan_timeout ?

how can we properly set the scan timeouts? Say if we need to scan for a device for 5 seconds and if it is not available we can stop the scan and search for a new device. i am using ble_app_uart_c fro scanning the peripherals.
