BALF-NRF01D3 and nrf51822 QFAA , no 0.8pF on SE

Hi,

I am currently implementing the BALF-NRF01D3 and I read in the docs that no 0.8pF capacitor is needed on the output (SE).

Does this mean that no antenna matching is required? I guess this is still needed, but I just wanted to double check.

I am using a PCB antenna and currently tuning it with one inductor and one capacitor. In order to find the right values for L and C, how can I calculate these?

Thanks for your help! Henry

Yes, ST's datasheet for the BALF-NRF01D3 shows that the 0.8 pF capacitor is no longer needed.

Yes, an antenna matching network is still required. The purpose of the balun is to match the nRF51 chip to 50 Ohm. An antenna matching network matches the antenna to 50 Ohm.

For a PCB antenna, the antenna matching network consists of one shunt component, see the antenna tuning whitepaper, chapter 4.1.

The values of the component(s) in the antenna matching network cannot be calculated. They have to be found during tuning of the antenna, using a network analyzer.
