Can't get any output in Segger Debug Terminal

I'm continuing my evaluation of the Nordic BLE offerings, and I've looked at a bunch of threads on here where people have had the same problem I'm having where no output is seen on the Segger Debug Terminal when running the demo apps. I've tried a bunch of suggestions from those threads to no avail.

I have set NRF_LOG_BACKEND_RTT_ENABLED to 1. I have confirmed that NRF_LOG_ENABLED is set to 1. When I run the ble_app_hrs app on the nRF52840DK I can see the cursor in the Debug Window advance three lines but no text is output. Seems like it is just outputting newline characters. The reason I want to see debugging is that I'm adding some custom services and I want to know how to set the RAM start and size values. It seems to me there should be a way of determining this without having to run the program and see debug output, but if that's the way it's done then I can live with it ... except for the lack of debug output.

Can anyone suggest what I can try to see the debug output I'm looking for, or for that matter, any debug output?

Thanks.
