DFU insufficient resources

Hi,

I want to update firmware on nrf52832, but I have an error: DFU insufficient resources

I found this and this, so I try to program my softdevice with this file:  /nRF5_SDK_15.3.0_59ac345/components/softdevice/s132/hex/s132_nrf52_6.1.1_softdevice.hex, but the error is still there. My archive firmware is the archive creates with this command:  nrfutil pkg generate --application nrf52832_xxaa.hex --application-version 1 --hw-version 52 --sd-req 0xb7 --key-file ..\..\..\..\..\..\dfu\app_private_key.pem app_dfu_package.zip and its size is 342KB.

So is there another way to update my firmware, or how can I reduce the size of my archive?

I use nrf52832, sdk 15.3 and ses.

Hi Lydie, 

Did you build "nrf52832_xxaa.hex" from one of the BLE SDK projects? Also, do you know if the application is actually supposed to be around ~340K? That's a big application for this chip variant.  

Note that the application shall not be merged with bootloader or Softdevice when you generate DFU package.

I build "nrf52832_xxaa.hex" from my project with the command make. 

I program softdevice with this file: s132_nrf52_6.1.1_softdevice.hex, bootloader with bootloader_dfu.hex which is created like this mergehex -m ..\..\..\..\..\components\softdevice\s132\hex\s132_nrf52_6.1.1_softdevice.hex _build/nrf52832_xxaa_s132.hex -o bootloader_dfu.hex

Hi,

Each image must be provided separately when you generate a DFU package with nrfutil. I.e., you can't merge images beforehand. 

Creating a SD+BL update:

nrfutil pkg generate --softdevice <softdevice>.hex --bootloader <bootloader>.hex ...

I don't understand what you're saying. The package I create is my app + my private key. It is this package that I upload on my phone.

So the "nrf52832_xxaa.hex" file you use to generate  app_dfu_package.zip is not merged .zip with the Softdevice or bootloader?

What's the size of the application when you build it in SES?

Hi, the file I use to generate the package is created when I do "make" in my project folder so it's not merged.

The size of the nrf52832_xxaa.hex file is 959 KB, and the app_dfu_package.zip is 342 KB. I'm trying to reduce them because I have a file which contains 13 arrays of pictures (80x160) I want to display. So I need to save them into the flach memory but I can't because it's too big, so I have to find another solution.
