Determine signal strength of connection

Hi I have a module that is used in a hand held instrument. It contains the nrf52832. It connects to phones for data communications. Is it possible to determine the strength of the RF connection on the module side? The module has the capability to set RF output power to +4dbm,0dbm,-4dbm,-8dbm or -20dbm. I see talk about a RSSI value, but how would I get that? Is that something that has to be communicated from the phone(host)?

RSSI = Received Signal Strength Indication.

• On the phone, RSSI is the strength of the signal being received at the phone.
  Adjusting the modules Tx power will affect this.
   
• On the module, RSSI is the strength of the signal being received at the module.
  Adjusting the modules Tx power will not affect this.
  
  

There are SoftDevice APIs for accessing RSSI

Thank You very much. I'm using a RAYTEC module that has AT type commends only, There is a query commend(AT?CONNECTRSSI) that gives an RSSI value, but I dont know how to relate that to the signal strength.

What does the Raytec documentation say?

The AT commands will be proprietary to Raytec - they have nothing to do with Nordic.

You will have to ask Raytec for help with their AT commands and/or clarification of their documentation ...
