How to receive commands from mobile app/client/central?

I can transmit data from my device (the server/peripheral) with the ble_app_hrs, but want to modify the peripheral behavior with some basic commands sent from the mobile app. Is there a particular service that will easily allow me to do this? Is communication from the central to the peripheral not possible in ble?

I recommend that you look at the ble_app_lbs example which sends data both ways in the simplest way. Also, look at this thread and this thread and this blog.
