Permanent scan on a gateway

Hello,

I'm developing a gateway and i would like to use advertising packet on sensor side to transmit data but it suggests that my gateway will be in permanent scan. I know scanning is consuming a lot but can it be used in a permanent way. i will also handling standard connections. 

Can the permanent scan be an issue during the whole life of the device ?

Normally, a "gateway" would be expected to have mains power ?

Clearly, if your device is not scanning, then it will not be seeing any advertising!

Only you can say whether that's a problem for your particular application!

Indeed, the gateway will get the main power.

At first sight, when i started using BLE with nordic, i thought that scanning was a short phase during which a connection will be established. But now, since i know that  data can be transmited with the advertising packets, i guess i need to set my gateway in permanent scan. i just wanted to know it was the good approach and if it was someting currently used.

It's the only way to see advertising.

But, in many cases, it may not matter if you miss some advertisements.

Again, it all depends on the specific requirements of your particular application.
