physical cell ID of the

Hi everyone

I don't really understand what the physical cell ID is. Is it a randomly generated ID created by the nRF9160 chip or a set ID within the cell?

As far as I understand a physical cell ID gives no additional information about the cell, it just separates the cells seen by the chip from each other. If the neighbor command does not discover other towers for further interaction, what is it's purpose? For always guaranteeing the best mobile connection the chip itself needs to know where other cells are and manage to connect to these eventually, so I think there must be a way for me to do this too, except you don't allow such actions to be done manually or did not implement them yet for manual use. We can determine the actual location of the towers/cells after getting their cell-ID with the help of our mobile carrier.

If it was be possible to use this physical cell ID to connect to an other cell we could easily read out the cell ID. If this isn't possible, I generally don't understand what the purpose of these physical Cell IDs is.

I hope my questions are not too confusingly asked.

Kind Regards

Dominik
