Reading ADC in nRF52840

Hi,

I am new to development with Nordic chips. I am using nRF52840-DK (SES,nRF5_SDK_15.3.0_59ac345) to read analog input on ADC pin AIN0. I want to continuously read the adc after pairing is established and then broadcast the data over Bluetooth. In order to achieve my objective, I am trying to run ble_app_hrs example by combining the SAADC example with it. Is this approach correct.

When I compile my program using SES, I am getting the following error in nrfx_timer.h(line 74). I don't get this error if run the these examples individually.

'NRFX_TIMER0_INST_IDX' undeclared here (not in a function); did you mean 'NRFX_TIMER_INSTANCE'?

Thanks,

Jagbir

  • Hi.

    The first issue you have is that you try to initialize logging twice.

    Please remove:

         //uint32_t err_code = NRF_LOG_INIT(NULL);
        //APP_ERROR_CHECK(err_code);

        //NRF_LOG_DEFAULT_BACKENDS_INIT();

    from main(void).

    Second problem i spotted is in saadc_sampling_event_init() -> nrf_drv_timer_init();

    This assert triggers:

    Best regards,

    Andreas

  • Thanks Andreas. I was thinking that using the ble_app_uart example with saadc will suit my application more.

    The function used in my code “err_code = ble_nus_string_send(&m_nus, my_data_array, BLE_NUS_MAX_DATA_LEN); “ is replaced by following function in latest sdk.

     uint32_t ble_nus_data_send(ble_nus_t * p_nus, uint8_t   * p_data, uint16_t  * p_length, uint16_t    conn_handle)

    How can I use the new function without sacrificing the original functionality.

  • Hi.

    Have you taken a look at the API description?

    They are basically the same, only difference is that ble_nus_data_send requires the connection handle to the destination of the message as input.

    Best regards,

    Andreas

  • I was able to use the new function but I my program always ends up in a break point condition after log_init(). Am I initializing something multiple times ?
