NRF9160 Primary battery

Hi,

We are developing  nrf9160 sensor based product powered by primary battery(non rechargeable). Sensor current consumption is less than 1 mA.

while trying Saft LS14500 battery nrf9160 is continuously restarting during modem activity. Same works well with Li-PO rechargeable battery, looks like Saft LS14500 is unable to supply enough peak current.

Could you please recommend the primary battery chemistry type be used with nrf9160 to work.

  • Looking at that battery, it does say that the maximum recommended constant current drain is 50mA. The modem will use around that value of current while in RX. You need to find a battery that can handle the maximum current the modem will use if the network forces it to use 23dBm. Section 5.2.1.14 of the nRF9160 OPS has the information on modem current consumption.
