Power consumption of Thingy 91

Hi

For our semester project, we develop a box that has to reads some parameters from an oil pump system and send data to the cloud. As we wanted to make it independent of a wall charger/power adaptor, we consider using just a battery. My question is how much energy Thingy:91 consumes while using LTE-M and NB-IoT? How big our battery should be so as to send data to the cloud, let's say, every hour and last for 5 years?

Thank you.

Best regards,

Max

Rough estimates I would say you need a battery in atleast the 7000mAh range if you assume that the consumption is around 100uA for GPS tracking each hour.

  • Hi Andreas

I don't have much knowledge on how this board works, but I didn't have in mind using location positioning (GPS). I just need to send data measured on an oil pump and send it to the cloud for future analysis. Meaning, cellular is on once in an hour for sending packages of data and being in sleeping mode the rest of the time.  Could you please clarify it for me?

    Thank you in advance
