I need assistance with nRF52811 with direction finding capability.

Hi, I am interested in the nRF52811 direction finding capability. In particular, whether its feasible to develop direction findings through a single beacon to receiver configuration? Nordic have offered a summary page that includes a location engine. Is this part of the SoC or does it need to be proprietary? Finally, has there been an update to the development kit to support direction finding? Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

  • Hi,

We are still working on our solution, this is a complex project and unfortunately takes some time. The Bluetooth specified direction finding (AoA) requires one beacon transmitting a packet with a CTE, and one receiver that during the CTE switches between antennas in its antenna array to sample the phase differences of the different antennas.

There is no locator engine HW in any nRF52 device, this calculation must be done in HW.

    Best regards,

    Andreas
