nRF24L01+ change quartz

Hi all! May I use another quartz instead of 16 MHz? Will the output frequency equal to 2.4GHz/16, if I will be use the 1 MHz quartz? Or IC will not work? Is it possible to change the reference design for the RF frequency below 2.4GHz?

  • The 16 Mhx is used to directly create the 2.4 GHz carrier and the radio part of the chip will not work if you use a 1 MHz crystal instead. We are only testing our chips with 16 MHz crystal, but in theory it would be possible to have the radio working with a crystal outside 16 MHz with the carrier getting the same offset. However, this is outside of spec and we can't say anything on performance and would not recommend doing so, but for crystals fairly close to 16 MHz, it might work.
