Installed nrfjprog is too old for the device -- nrfprog v10.5.0, JLink v6.54c

Hi,

Today I found I was unable to flash my nRF9160 DK. "west flash" fails with the error message "Installed nrfjprog is too old for the device. Please upgrade nrfjprog to a more recent version". I had no issues yesterday with nrfjprog v10.4.1. I see you released nrfjprog v10.5.0, but the release notes mention nothing in regards to the nRF9160. I updated, but am still unable to flash my DK. I'm running Ubuntu 18.04.

Considering no relevant changes were made to the nRF9160 with the nrfjprog update, why do you require the lastest version? Everything worked perfectly with v10.4.1. I don't even understand how v10.4.1 magically broke overnight.

  • Edit: I had an nRF52840 DK connected to my computer as well, and it seems "nrfjprog --reset -f NRF91" was targeting the 840 DK and not the nRF91. This was my bad, but the error message "Installed nrfjprog is too old for the device." was not particularly helpful in discovering my blunder, though.

  • Hi, I completely agree. I've been stuck with the same error message myself. Glad you figured it out!

    Best regards,

    Heidi
