Engine noise concerns

Hello, I'm working on a project that contains 2 small enclosures each with a sRF905 and processor that monitors temp and humidity. One of the enclosures is mounted in the engine compartment. Each enclosure then (& currently on a prototype) transmits it's data via wireless to a computer in a truck. I have not seen any problems with this yet however, I'm concerned that the wireless data can be susceptible to engine noise vs. using wired communications.

Obviously, wireless is much easier to mount vs. routing a cable. Any advice and / or your opinions?

  • HI Dan,

Is the truck engine a combustion engine or an electrical motor? If its the first then I would not expect a combustion engine to emit any RF signal that would interfere with the nRF905 transmission/reception. If its an electrical motor, then there could be an issue and I would recommend doing a measurement with a spectrum analyzer to see if the engine is emitting any noise in the 900Mhz band.

    Best regards
