nrf9160dk unable to connect

Hello, I just got an nrf9160dk with hopes that it would allow me to reprogram a Thingy91 that I couldn't program through the MCU method. (this is an still open ticket: https://devzone.nordicsemi.com/f/nordic-q-a/55849/trouble-trying-to-upload-firmware-to-a-thingy-91-via-usb)

Unpacking of the nrf9160dk went just fine and i could register it to nrfCloud but right after it popped up in nrfCloud the problems started. Right after it registered it says that the device is not connected anymore. If I connect it to my linux computer, a flash drive pops up in the filesystem and I can see terminal messages if i connect through "LTE Link Monitor" but i can't either reflash it using "nrf Connect" or SEGGER. The first gives the following error:

So now I have a Thingy91 and an nrf9160dk but i can't program either. Could you please direct me on how to troubleshoot this? Thank you.

Try to install the latest version of J-Link and see if your problem goes away.

I think this should be mentioned in the "Getting started" guide in the nrf Connect, because all the documentation assumes that the "Programmer" app will work without specifying that J-Link is a requirement.

I was able to reprogram both the Thingy91 and the nrf9160dk using the Programmer app. When using SEGGER, if I connect the thingy91 to the debug port in the nrf9160dk, how do I know which device am I downloading stuff to/debugging? I can't seem to be able to select which device anywhere.

Answering my own question: If the thingy91 is connected to the jtag AND it has power through USB the jtag automatically is acting on the Thingy91.
