Getting Rough Location Without Using GPS

Hello,

This question is referring to the ability to obtain a rough location without using GPS based on the location of the LTE tower that you are connected to. The idea is that with a roaming SIM (such as the iBasis one), we would want to be able to know which country we are in without having to turn on the GPS. We would also be able to tell which city (or area within) that we are in as well.

Is there a database that we can access that would show the location of a tower that we are connected to? What are we checking in LTE Link Monitor to be able to pull up the map when clicking on "Show serving station location"?

Hi Akash,

In LTE Link Monitor we use locationapi.org service to display a map showing the location of the device.
This is documented here.

It uses different information which it gathers from the modem. 

e.g. MCC, MNC, CelliD etc.

I would recommend checking out that service or something similar for the application you are describing.
