Modem Firmware upate on Thingy:91

Hi!

I just got the Thingy:91 to play around with, but the modem firmware is old. Is it possible to update the modem firmware using USB and the Programmer software? The "Update modem" button is grayed out, and I'm not sure what to do next. Do I need the DK with the programmer chip for this?

Hi.

You can update the modem via nRF Cloud.

However, the Thingy:91 does only support modem DFU within the same minor version. You can, therefore, not update from mfw1.0.0 to v1.1.0.

For this, you will need an external programmer, such as the one found on the DK.

Didrik Rokhaug I just saw a software release email for nRF Connect for Desktop v3.3.1 which mentions ""full Modem firmware update (without a programmer)".  Does that mean it can now handle upgrades from mfw1.0.0 to mfw1.1.0, or was the word "full" a bit misleading in that email?

jbrzozoski, yes it does.

You can now upgrade the modem firmware from one minor release to the next over serial DFU using the Programmer app.
