nrf52832 interfaces with LCD (driver IC: ST7735S) using 8080 8 bit Parallel Interface

Hi,

We are developing a product using NRF52832 chipset with a small 128*160 LCD (based on st7735s controller using 8 bit parallel interface). 

I noticed that there is st7735s driver in the NRF SDK /components/driver_ext/st7735. However, it is for the SPI interface. Do you support the 8 bit parallel interface as well ?

Hi,

There is no support for the parallel interface in the SDK. Nor does the nRF chip has a parallel interface in HW, so you would have to bit bang it. That is probably possible, but I do not see how that makes sense instead of using SPI.

What interface should I be based on in the SDK ? SPI or other interfaces ? How can I synchronize the clock and data[7:0] ?

Hi,

From my perspective, you should use SPI when possible (which it is in this case), as is done in the SDK driver (<SDK>/components/drivers_ext/st7735/st7735.c). Why would you prefer to bit-bang an archaic 8 bit parallel interface instead (the question about synchronizing the clock and 8 bit parallel signal is only relevant in that case).

We would like higher refresh rate on the LCD. So there is no parallel port on the NRF52832 ?

There is no parallel interface on any of the nRF52 devices.
