Antenna Matched Network design for nRF24LU1+ and nRF24LO1+ ?

The datasheets for the nRF24LU1P ansd nRF24LO1P have near identical example antenna driver designs which vary in the values for the inductors, etc

The LU1P datasheet is more recent (2010 vs 2008) so should that example matched network design be the preferred starting point for the LO1P as well as the LU1P ?

No, the component values for the matching network is specific to the radio chip. So there's one set of component values for nRF24L01 and one set of component values for nRF24LU1+. Use the specified values from the specific product specification.
