Qualification of a BLE device

Hello,

We are completing a project where is used the BLE device nrf52832.

The product is composed by 2 devices: a peripheral and a central (both with nrf52832).

The broadcaster is a probe and the central a Base Station.

As softdevice is included the stack S132 V6.1.0 (QDID 115590). So, for what I’ve understood, to complete the qualification and obtain a new QDID we need to perform new tests only about the RF-PHY part.

We must contact one of the BQTF from the list present in the page www.bluetooth.com/.../. Is it correct?

The last question: do you think we need to proceed to create 2 different tests files and 2 different QDID at the end or we can consider the product as only one device? (the peripheral and the canetral device - always working together -, both with the nrf52832 using the S132 stack, but with different layout).

Thank you.

Best regards.

Alessandro

  • Hi Alessandro,

As softdevice is included the stack S132 V6.1.0 (QDID 115590). So, for what I’ve understood, to complete the qualification and obtain a new QDID we need to perform new tests only about the RF-PHY part.

The End Product QDID for the S132 v6.1.0 running on the nRF52832 already includes the RF PHY layer so there is no need to re-qualify this with the Bluetooth SIG, i.e. you should chose "Start the Bluetooth Qualification Process with No required Testing" when going through the Bluetooth Qualification Process on https://launchstudio.bluetooth.com/

However, we do recommend that you perform the RF-PHY test when you send your product to a testing house for CE/FCC testing so that you have test reports stating that you are in compliance with the Bluetooth Specification.

The last question: do you think we need to proceed to create 2 different tests files and 2 different QDID at the end or we can consider the product as only one device? (the peripheral and the canetral device - always working together -, both with the nrf52832 using the S132 stack, but with different layout).

As stated above you should not have to do any re-testing with regards to Bluetooth Qualification as this is already qualified with our End Product QDID. You should be able list both the central and peripheral device in the same Listing, e.g. https://launchstudio.bluetooth.com/ListingDetails/92630

    Best regards

    Bjørn
