nRF52840 DK Proximity demo, PCA10040 vs. PCA10056

The download page for nRF52840 DK (https://www.nordicsemi.com/Software-and-tools/Development-Kits/nRF52840-DK/Download#infotabs) has download links for Heart Rate Monitor and Proximity Demo.  I downloaded Proximity Demo, opened the zip file and see "ble_app_proximity_s132_pca10040.hex".  If I understand the nomenclature correctly, PCA10040 refers to nRF52832 SoC and PCA10056 refers to nRF52840 SoC.  So why does the Proximity demo for nRF52840 DK contain an executable built for the nRF52832 ?  Or are the executables for the two SoCs interchangable ?  Thanks

These hex files are old hex files that was used demo purposes early on, I can see they are 4 years old. The softdevices that are qualified to be used with the nRF52840 are listed here:

For development I suggest to check out:

There you can also find the latest code for proximity and heartrate.

So to make sure I understand clearly, are you saying that the demo files that I downloaded from the nRF52840 DK downloads page will NOT work on the nRF52840 DK ?

Hi Jack,

They should work for demo purposes, but they are not intended to be put into production no.
