3rd party nRF52840 modules - SDK 16.0.0 compatibility

Hi everyone,

We are currently at the stage of selecting a 3rd party nRF52840 module for our prototype. Maybe my question has an obvious answer but I want to ensure that the 3rd party modules suggested by Nordic are fully compatible with the latest version of the SDK.

Are we going to face any compatibility issues with our firmware (based on SDK 16.0.0) if we switch module during our prototype procedure?

Thanks in advance

Nick

  • Hi Nick,

As long as the onboard SoC is the same as the one you are developing firmware for, there will be no compatibility issues.
For safe measure I will also mention that the different third-party modules have different hardware configurations(footprints, pinouts, optional circuitry, etc.), which you still will need to keep in mind when switching between modules.

    Best regards,
    Karl
