How to calculate cadence using gyroscope/accelerometer with nrf52

Hi,

I'm trying to understand how to powermeter bike works. I read the ant documents and execute example bpwr ant code, but I have a question how cadence in power meters are read? Using accelerometer or gyroscope? I have a mpu6050 arduino board and I want to create a homemade power meter. Anyone can help me?
