NR52810 vs NRF52811

Hi

My company is currently using nrf52810 for a tracking application, but I see there're some new features on your nrf52811 iteration, as phased-array aperture and thread support.

What are the limitations on the x810 that limits the thread support? Also are there any plans on supporting  x811 with the s132?

  • Hi

The nRF52811 and nRF52810 are largely similar. The only differences are that there is one extra SPI, increased DMA size, and some radio feature improvements to the nRF52811 (as well as errata fixes for 150, 192, and 201). The radio specific changes are that the nRF52811 supports BLE Coded PHY (which the nRF52810 doesn't, as it doesn't support extended advertising at all), it has ~1dB improved RX sensitivity in all BLE modes as well as supporting Bluetooth 5.1, which means direction-finding using AoA and AoD.

As far as I know, there are no plans to make the S132 support the 811, as it has what it needs with S112, S113, and S140 support. You should ask the RSM of your area to confirm this though, as we here at support doesn't meddle in roadmaps and future plans, and never discuss these subjects on the DevZone. If you need help contacting the RSM, please say so, and I will help you get in touch.

    Best regards,

    Simon

52811's radio supports 802.15.4 PHY, 52810 doesn't, that's why thread is not supported.
