Thingy 91 not connecting

Hello, 

I have received Thingy 91 for demo purpouses including the SIM from iBasis, but I am unable to set up the device as it is not connecting to the cloud.

I have linked SIM already to the cloud, but device is not connecting at all.

In our country we do not have LTE-M, but NB-IoT and the Thingy is not switching automaticaly.

I have tried to update trough the nRF programmer, but I am unable to set the device to MCUboot mode to execute the firmware update. 

Any tips how to set the device to the MCUboot mode?
Turning on the device and presing SW3 button does not work. Is there any notification, that I am in this mode whatsoever?

I am beginner (sales) and I have to set up the demos for the presentations :)

    What location are you based? From  web page you can find the network coverage of iBasis. Make sure it is supported in your country.

     You should be able to change the mode using e.g. LTE Link Monitor. Issue the following command:

    AT+CFUN=4
    
    AT%XSYSTEMMODE=0,1,0,0
    
    AT+CFUN=1

    Are you able to get any output from the Thingy:91 when connected to LTE Link Monitor?

     If you have access to an nRF9160 DK you can program the Thingy:91 using a 10-pin debug probe.

     Edit: Or if you find a Segger JLink Programmer which supports Arm Cortex M33 devices.

     If the device is completely dark (no blinking LED) then you should be in serial recovery mode, ready to connect with the Programmer app found in nRF Connect for Desktop

    my device is breathing blue only. I will try the LTE Link monitor commands, but the response is not always there. Most of the time i got the timeout error message and give you feedback.

    MCUboot - when i press the button during the startup the device is still blinking blue as usual. There is no change :( 

  • Hello there is a log from the device in LTE Link monitor.

    LTE in the right corner is red: Not registred or denied or UICC failure 

    Could it be that the sim-card from iBasis does not cover our country? (Czech Republic)

    From the LTE Link Monitor output we can see that the Network registration status +CEREG returns:
    +CEREG: 2,0,"FFFE","FFFFFFFF",9  

    And the Signal quality notification %CESQ returns:
    +CESQ: 99,99,255,255,255,255 

    Indicating that iBasis is not supported in Czech Republic, as expected according to the network coverage of iBasis.

    Can you try with another SIM card? 

    Regarding the issue of not getting the device in MCUboot mode. Is this a completely new device?
